Popularly referred to as “PoCo,” Port Coquitlam is a dynamic mid-sized city of just under 60,000 located right where the waters of the Pitt River mingle with the Fraser’s.
PoCo has been seeing steady growth over the past two decades and its population is expected to expand further in the near future, albeit somewhat more slowly than the nearby communities of Port Moody and Surrey. Once a farming community, Port Coquitlam is now primarily suburban in character and is part of Metro Vancouver’s high-growth Tri-Cities region.
Bordered by the Coquitlam River on the west, PoCo is virtually surrounded by the much larger city of Coquitlam and is connected to Pitt Meadows via the Pitt River Bridge. Real estate here reflects the area’s transition from agricultural community to suburb and prospective buyers will find anything from farmland and comfortable single-family homes to condos, townhouses and luxury custom-built residences.
Port Coquitlam has a walkable and village-like downtown area that enhances the city’s warm small-town feel. It also has over 266 hectares of parkland and a well-developed network of multi-use trails, which includes the 25-km-long Traboulay PoCo Trail that rings the city and makes for a great introduction to the area.
