Living in White Rock

White Rock is a laidback yet sophisticated little beach town that hugs the gracefully curving shoreline along Semiahmoo Bay. Less than an hour south of downtown Vancouver and just two hours north from Seattle, it has been a popular vacation destination for years.

Serene and sunny, White Rock is edged by broad sandy beaches that are around 8 kilometres long and serve as its main attraction. Its total area of just over 5 km² is surrounded on three sides by Surrey and residents and visitors here enjoy having easy access to the amenities that the larger city has to offer, particularly its golf courses.

Named after the massive 486-ton granite boulder on its beach – about which numerous Coast Salish legends have been created – the city has been a seaside resort town for much of its recent history. Today it has a population of around 19,000 and continues to attract an array of visitors as well as relocating individuals and families. Real estate options are varied and plentiful, ranging from compact single-family homes and multi-family housing to expansive luxury properties. Those with water views and/or have easy access to the beach and promenade are typically the most highly valued.
